About Canada
Canada is the second largest country in the world by area. It occupies most of northern North America. Canada extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and northward into the Arctic Ocean. It shares land borders with the United States to the south and to the northwest. It was first inhabited by Aboriginal peoples and in the late 15th century, British and French expeditions settled on the Atlantic coast. France vanquished its colonies in 1763 following the Seven Years War. Canada officially became a country in 1867 through confederation. Although, it was still under British union. Over a century later, in 1982, Canada peacefully obtained independence from the United Kingdom.

Canada is a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It consists of ten provinces and three territories, and defines itself as a bilingual and multicultural nation; both English and French are official languages. A technologically advanced and industrialized nation, its diversified economy relies heavily on an abundance of natural resources and on trade, particularly with the United States, with which Canada has had a long and complex relationship.
